The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT) delivers integrated health care including specialist medical services in Northern Ireland (NI). It is one of the largest hospital Trusts in the United Kingdom. The BHSCT aims to improve population health and wellbeing and it achieves this in part by strongly supporting clinical research.
The Northern Ireland Clinical Trials Unit (NICTU) is a UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered Clinical Trials Unit and is based in BHSCT. The NICTU provides support for the design, conduct, management, analysis and publication of clinical trials, ensuring these trials are conducted to the highest standard. The NICTU team has a broad range of research expertise including trial management, statistics, data management, monitoring and health economics. The NICTU has established experience in managing early phase (1/2) clinical trials as well as larger multicentre studies on behalf of BHSCT as sponsor.
The Regional Nephrology and Renal Transplant Unit in the BHSCT is one of the most research active renal units in the UK with a robust track record in successfully recruiting patients to clinical trials targets.
The BHSCT Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I) Laboratory is an NHS CPA accredited facility providing the full range of Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) tests for renal and bone marrow transplantation.
